Big Manchester FoR Change briefing sessions
Big Manchester have arranged a number of briefing sessions to share learning from the FoR Change project:
- this work is not supporting maintenance of abusive relationships or abusive relationship behaviours
- the shifting sands of assessment:
- identifying perpetrator behaviours,
- the cycle of abuse and fluctuating and interchangeable strategies of typologies, and
- how perpetrators may try to recruit professionals
- safety planning, (leaving and staying) including assessing victim feelings, needs and behaviours
- approaches to work with both parents including equal parental responsibility of victim and perpetrator (not parental responsibilities of the woman and parental rights of the man)
- confidentiality: prioritising the victim and children; as an ethical issue; as a barrier to engagement; conceivable risks
- children: the impact on children; engaging children
The briefings are aimed at professionals working with cohabiting couples with children where there are concerns about DVA.
