Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse – Truth Project National Awareness Campaign

The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse was set up as a result of serious concerns that some organisations had failed, and were continuing to fail, to protect children from sexual abuse.

The Inquiry launched an awareness campaign across England and Wales to publicise the Truth Project in January 2018. The aim is to ensure that victims and survivors of child sexual abuse are aware of the Truth Project and have the opportunity to speak to the Inquiry if they wish.

The Truth Project offers an opportunity for victims and survivors to share their experience and be respectfully heard and acknowledged.

The Truth Project is a very important part of the Inquiry’s work, as hearing from victims and survivors will allow the Project to understand the nature and scale of child sexual abuse, and to hear victims and survivors suggestions for change. It will also help to challenge long-held myths about abuse.

More detail about the Truth Project is available on the website www.truthproject.org.uk

A national awareness raising campaign started on 8 January 2018 and has used billboards, radio commercials, print advertisements in national and regional newspapers, and social media to ensure victims and survivors are aware of the Truth Project.

The awareness raising campaign has been developed using substantial research, involving victims and survivors of child sexual abuse and the general public. It has also been developed with advice from the Victims and Survivors Consultative Panel who help to consider the impact of this work from the perspective of victims and survivors.

How you can help to raise awareness of the Truth Project
There are a number of ways to help raise awareness of the Truth Project, including by directing digital and social media traffic to the Truth Project website. By linking to the website, many more victims and survivors will be made aware of the work of the Truth Project and how to access it.

There are a number of electronic materials available including: Truth Project banners; a video graphic; social media toolkit; and Word and PDF text, with information about the Truth Project. The social media toolkit, text and logos are also available in Welsh.
