Manchester Tobacco Addiction Service, Be Smoke Free

The Population Health team has launched its new Manchester Tobacco Addiction Service, Be Smoke Free.

This service is needed at any time, but sadly, we know that smokers are at much greater risk from the Coronavirus. They have more hand to face contact, increasing the risk of infection, but if infected, they are thought to be at about 2.5 times higher risk of severe complications compared to non smokers.

Smokers are also at greater risk of acute issues such as stroke and heart attacks at a time when it is more important than ever to minimise hospital admissions. Stopping smoking can have health benefits very quickly both in terms of Coronavirus and other smoking related risks and conditions.

The provider, Change, Grow, Live have adapted the model for this new service to respond to the current situation.

The service is for Manchester residents and people registered with a Manchester GP and referrals can be taken with immediate effect.
