National Safeguarding Adults Week – close
This week we supported National Safeguarding Adults Week with a flurry of activity and posts – our aim was to create time to focus on safeguarding adults – so we can be better, together.
We have focused on raising awareness of five key themes:
- Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
- Herbert Protocol
- Self-neglect
- Modern Day Slavery
- Homelessness.
Many of these themes are interrelated.
For example there are strong links between incidences of modern slavery and homelessness – take a look at the Let’s Talk campaign about modern slavery and homelessness being run by the The Clewer Initiative.  It aims to ensure that every night shelter, drop-in or outreach service that links with homeless or vulnerably housed people knows about the risk of modern slavery to their guests, and what they need to do about it.
We know that individuals with hoarding symptoms experienced a greater number of lifetime traumatic events (Adverse Childhood Experiences) compared to those without hoarding symptoms.
Likewise that people who find themselves homeless have often experienced traumatic events.
So please continue to help us to raise awareness of the issues facing adults at risk by:
- learning about the key issues from our resource hub
- sharing our resources within your organisation and with the people you meet
- accessing our training provision
- holding safeguarding events – like the Hoarding Peer Support Group detailed below
- completing the ACT checklist to find out you to have the right safeguarding measures in place for adults at risk
- keeping up to date by subscribing to our e-bulletin or those of our partners.
Thank you for your support
