Consent Policy for children & young people – resources for practitioners
It is expected that practitioners working with children and families will discuss their intention to refer a safeguarding concern to Children’s Social Care; however it is recognised that there will be occasions when a parent/carer may refuse consent; or when it is not safe for professionals to discuss their intention to refer and seek consent.
The MSCB Consent Policy will ensure that children and families are informed that a contact has been made to Children’s Social Care and that information may need to be gathered on their family circumstances which may lead to a social care assessment or potential offer of early help.
Guidance on how to judge a child or young person’s capacity to give consent to sharing of personal information can be found in chapter 1 of the GMSP procedures at greatermanchesterscb.proceduresonline.com
