Disrespect NoBody campaign

The Disrespect NoBody campaign builds on the Government’s previous This is Abuse campaign and is aimed at preventing abusive behaviours within relationships. This campaign is targeted at 12 to 18 year olds and aims to prevent them from becoming perpetrators and victims of abusive relationships.

The Disrespect NoBody campaign helps young people to:

• understand what a healthy relationship is
• re-think their views of controlling behaviour, violence, abuse and what consent means within their relationships
• know where to go for help and advice
• develop key skills and attributes such as empathy, respect, communication and negotiation so that they can enjoy healthy relationships both as they grow up and in adulthood.

It aims to prevent the onset of domestic violence in adults by challenging attitudes and behaviours amongst young people that abuse in relationships is acceptable. Resources cover topics such as:

• Sexting
• Relationship abuse
• Consent
• Rape
• Sexual harassment.

Disrespect NoBody teaching resources on preventing teenage relationship abuse
Discussion guides and session plans to support the Government’s Disrespect NoBody campaign aimed at preventing abuse in teenage relationships, have been developed by the PSHE Association with the Home Office and Government Equalities Office.

The Home Office Disrespect NoBody PSHE education teaching materials are designed to support the Government’s campaign to help prevent abusive behaviours within young people’s relationships.

These teaching materials can be easily integrated into PSHE education programmes and are designed to help pupils understand and maintain healthy relationships while learning about consent and challenging controlling behaviour, violence and abuse. The resource also focuses on developing key skills and attributes intrinsic to healthy relationships – such as empathy, respect, communication and negotiation.

The PSHE Association has worked with the Home Office to update these discussion guides and lesson plans and the new materials are available to download free from  www.pshe-association.org.uk/disrespect-nobody-teaching-resources-preventing

The resources include two discussion guides: one for those working with 8-12 year olds and one for those working with 16-18 year olds, as well as three lesson plans covering relationship abuse, consent and sexting.

Practitioners can also email the campaign team to access other resources to support the campaign, including resources for LGBT young people, and order up to 10 copies of a DVD containing the campaign adverts to use alongside the teaching materials – contact the team at VAWGCampaigns@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk.
