Unborn babies & vulnerable pregnant women – resource for practitioners

One in four women experience domestic violence and abuse at some point in their lives. This may be physical, sexual, emotional or psychological abuse. Thirty percent of this abuse starts in pregnancy and existing abuse may get worse during pregnancy, or after giving birth.

Domestic violence and abuse during pregnancy puts mother and her unborn child in danger. It increases the risk of miscarriage, infection, premature birth, and injury or death to the baby.

Information about conducting a pre-birth assessment and a comprehensive risk assessment tool are available as part of the GMSP procedures and can be found at  greatermanchesterscb.proceduresonline.com .
