Screening of ‘Resilience – the Biology of Stress & the Science of Hope’ – 3rd July

Date: Wednesday 3rd July 2019                    Time:  4:30 – 6:30 pm

Venue: Co-op Academy North Manchester

Manchester City Council are pleased to support this screening of ‘Resilience’ – the award winning documentary that explores the science of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the birth of a new movement to treat and prevent Toxic Stress. Now understood to be one of the leading causes of everything from heart disease and cancer to substance abuse and depression, extremely stressful experiences in childhood can alter brain development and have lifelong effects on health and behaviour.

There will also be an opportunity to find out about the ACEs place-based pilot being delivered in Harpurhey. The pilot, funded through the Our Manchester Innovation Fund, is testing whether a trauma informed workforce at place level allows practitioners to engage on a deeper level with service users and people with lived Adverse Childhood Experiences. Will a greater understanding of the root causes of behaviours rather than “treating” presenting behaviours make the current intervention offer work better?
